Stories from the Litter Box, Chapter 2

Because I know you so all want to hear about my kitties and their issues instead of reading posts about fiber. Truth is I already had these photos, and didn’t feel like shooting more at this time of the morning. So you get an update about Guy and the Litter Box.

This is funny, my boyfriend was out of town last week, Tuesday thru Saturday. From Tuesday thru Sunday, Guy was the perfect example of a Litter Box trained cat. No accidents, not even in front of the box. I couldn’t have been more proud. I bought him sparkley toys, got them
all out from under the stove whenever he whapped them under it, played with him, gave him belly rubs, he was a happy kitty.
ETA: James and Guy get along just fine! It occured to me Guy might see James as the Alpha cat around here, and when he was gone, Guy was in charge. Guy hangs out with me alot of the day, while I dye in the kitchen, he’ll snooze, or play with his toys. He and Chuckie are practically my shadows!

Then Monday rolls around, and it’s like the flood gates opened, I’ll spare the details, but it was ugly. I’ve been working on finding a solution from all of your helpful suggestions.
Monday afternoon I ditched the old box, bought 2 new covered boxes, all filled with fresh litter, and I left the lid off of one, incase he’s more comforable doing what he does that way.

It seems to be working, but we’ll see. I called the vet, just to get their opinion, and they asked me to bring in a sample, so they can test it just in case. A sample. Right. How do you get a cat to pee in a cup?! (I’m kidding, I think that idea is damn funny though.)

He may have his problems, but he is the most photogenic cat I’ve got. he looks great in every light, and is just waiting for his closeup. How’s that for a segue? Cat pee to cat photos!

I’ve been playing with dyeing silk, so photos tomorrow! Or later today if I’m feeling ambitious.

Could the cat have been better behaved because your boyfriend was away? And you were paying more attention to him (the cat)? Has this been a pattern in the past, I guess is what I’m saying.

This may be too delicate to ask, but do kitty and the BF get along ok? I had an issue with a pal and Indy that eventually resolved itself when the pal and the cat spent quality time bonding. It would be hard to stay mad at a kitty with such a sweet little nose. What a great photoset!

Ohhhhh, that is the cutest pinkest little kitty nose EVAH!

  4. Arleta says:

Cute, cute kitty! I had a white kitten with a pink nose when I was little. He’s really beautiful. You can talk about knitting later.

  5. he is just so cute! I love his little nose. Good luck figuring this all out : )

  6. Marisol says:

What a gorgeous kitty. I can see why it would be har d to stay mad at him –even when he mis-behaves.

What great pictures of your kitty! I wish that I could get some close-ups like that of our kittens, but it’s not easy. Are you sure you didn’t drug ’em?

Good luck w/ the litter box situation. Two of our four cats (yeah – crazy) occasionally show their unhappiness by finding a corner. We’ve never been able to find a solid reason, and this sucks.

He’s lovely, and I love that he doesn’t run from the camera.

The vet should have those little plastic pellets for sample collecting. You put them in an empty litter box and supposedly the cat will pee on them and you can scoop them all up, and have enough pee on them for the sample. My boy would never pee on them, even locked in the bathroom with them all day. Stubborn little bugger had to go to the vet overnight instead and refused to pee for over 24 hours until they finally gave up and used a catheter. Silly git cost me a fortune.

I’d say your furry pal likes the limelight and doesn’t like any competition at all. Even if he likes the competition himself. Jealousy rears it’s smelly little leg!

Those kitty pictures are so cute i almost wanna cry!!!

  11. Suzanne says:

One way to get pee too is put saran wrap over the back of the litter box and put kitty in there first thing in the AM for his morning pee. This SOMETIMES works. My kitty had this issue and actually needed a catheter to get her sample. She was peeing in corners for behavioral reasons (I rescued another cat who does not get along with my other girls). After changing boxes, litter, cleaning everywhere, positive reinforcement, spraying with water bottles, Feliway, and putting food where she peed….I had to resort to medication, which is working very well and seems to make her happier. No more pee problems. Hope that your issue is a little easier to solve!
Also, LOVED the cat pictures…how did you get such crisp close ups without blurring? Really beautiful pink nose.

  12. You can do fiber content later, that kitty is a cutie. Pics like those make me miss my cats from the past. Not enough to get another cat though. (too much cat hair make my nose tickle!)
Silk huh? Love my sock yarn!

  13. Chris says:

    Those are gorgeous, gorgeous pictures!

Yeah, the first thing I started to think was maybe Guy has issues with your BF?!

  14. Carrie says:

    Super cool photots!!!

  15. aja says:

How in the world do you capture cat pee??? That sounds impossible!! I’m tellin’ ya, the Feliway is working pretty good for me. So far so good. He does look like a little angel, who would know he is so mischevious??
