My Weaving Class resumed after the fourth, and I made a lot of progress, but no weaving til next Saturday. Before you start weaving the weft, you have to warp the loom. This took me the better part of 3 hours to do, and I’m not quite there yet. I think this is normal.
First, all my ends get threaded through a reed. I’m working at 10 epi, for a piece 12 in, plus 1 in to allow for drawing in, I have 13 in. So I have 130 ends. That is alot of ends.
Then you take all those ends and thread them through the heddles. I’m working on a four harness loom, so I have four rows of heddles. The idea is to thread them in a sequence, depending on your pattern. We’re just doing basics here, so my sequence is 1,2,3,4. This repeats until I’ve threaded all my ends.
I think I have to do a few more things, then I can start actual weaving.
Loving your colors. I understand all of it, except for the 1,2,3,4 part. I’ve owned a rigid heddle (or two) in my time, but I want HARNESSES! HARNESSES, do you hear me? (The gods I’m yelling at, not you. lol)
So, I am watching intently to see where you go next. (I actually sold looms way back…well, macrame was big back then. The first time around…)
Did I mention how envious I am? I wanna join you in this. It looks like suck fun, and there’s math, too.
I think I can safely say that weaving is a craft that I will not be trying out. It just looks way too…involved.
Of course, if I’m weaving in a year you have my permission to wave this in my face ;o)
Cool colors. And, holey moley, that is a lot of ends!Work before the fun, right?
I like the colours. 130 ends. Yikes!
That’s a lot of ends!
Wow. I have no idea what you’re talking about, but it looks damned cool.
Threading the heddles is the worst part of weaving – for my first weaving project on my own, I had to re-thread 2 different times because I calculated the epi wrong.
Your colors look nice – what are you making? A scarf?
Yikes! I’m not sure I would have the patience. Got to give you points for the patience!
oooh – all those colors look wonderful. Haven’t managed to get sucked into weaving just yet, but the color (and the potential) makes me smile! I bet the ends would prove to be simply irrisistable to my cats though!
