Stealth Weaving

Hi blog! I’ve missed you! So lets get started.

I made one present this last holiday season. Not surprisingly I bet, it was a woven one. It was gifted to my Mum on Christmas to many ohhs and ahhs. She’s a knitter too, and about a year and a half ago, redecorated her kitchen and adjoining living room. From then on whenever I would see her, and on the phone once in awhile, she’d tell me how she needed to find a throw kit in the right colors, to knit for her living room. She likes the Ironstone kits, and also the Colinette ones, and has knit many of them.

I took the hint. In my new found passion for weaving, I decided before Thanksgiving to weave her one. I stole a pillow from the living room (she got pissed thinking the dogs ate it. Hee) and dyed up some warp yarn, and ordered the green mohair from Louet. I had a great time working on this, it went so fast! Done in just 2 evenings.

It measures about 44×70, and because my loom is only about half as wide, I wove two pieces, and sewed them together. I wove it fairly loosely, so the fuzzy mohair wouldn’t cover up the mohair/merino warp. It is warm and cozy, and I already have the yarn for mine! It will have to wait a bit though, I have some knitting in the works, and I’ve been bit once again by the spinning bug. Which is good because I am buying NO YARN in 2008. Stop laughing. No, really!!

That’s awesome- poor dogs, getting blamed when they were blameless. I would love to try weaving some day.

That’s beautiful and your mom must love it. Bit of a Freudian slip on the date for no yarn buying, eh?

This is a great piece – and I love that your mom noticed the missing pillow and blamed it on the dogs!

  6. good for you! no yarn buying in 2008. Says nothing about what you plan for 2009! he he he.

I love the colors in the weaving, and how the orange still shows through. I’ve enjoyed my one attempt at weaving, but cannot afford a loom right now (but I keep looking for one every once in a while). This, like a spinning wheel or charkha, is definitely on my little wish list for the future.

Hello and greetings. I am knitting up the Chevron Love hat and have completed row 1 of chart B. BUT the math isn’t working right–how many repeats of chart B to go around the hat? I have 22 chevrons (total, all the way around) and the chart doesn’t specify how many times
to repeat it–do I repeat it 4x, 5x? Since I’m a newbie, do I also knit ALL the colored squares-i.e. the line up the right side of the chart? Gratefully waiting for your input! Perplexed in New York.

divide up evenly: do I repeat it 4x, 5x? Since I’m a newbie, do I also knit ALL the colored squares-i.e. the line up the right side of the chart? Gratefully waiting for your input! Perplexed in New York.
