This end of September (can you believe it already?) marks my 10 year anniversary of moving to Pittsburgh. I’ve been living here for 10 years and it all seems like a blur. 10 years ago I was just this 17 year old kid who didn’t know anything about anything. When you’re 17 you think you know, but you have No. Idea. about any of it. I moved here for school, and stuck around, cause here in this little little city, it’s better than where I’m from in southeast Michigan.

After 10 years, 2 apartments, two houses, same car, new car, a couple of bank accounts, 3 relationships, 4 cats, countless friendships forged and also lost, a couple of handfuls of jobs, an endless amount of live music shows photographed, a major career change, and one pretty successful little yarn business, I like to think I’m on a good path for whatever my future may have in store for me. I have to keep reminding myself that I’m only almost 28, and that a year from now things may be completely different, but to always make the effort to enjoy right now. That right now is good, but that right now is not the end all, be all. So here’s to another 10 years, and all that they may bring.

I was with you until the two apartments thing. How have you only moved twice but led such an awesomely fab decade? Congrats all the same! 🙂

  2. Heather says:

Happy Anniversary, Doll. Amazing what a decade can do. Here’s to many more, happy, healthy, wealthy and wise.

  3. Ruth says:

I’ll toast to that. Happy anniversary!

  4. Tara says:

I love Pittsburgh. My husband went to school there (when he was just mah boyfriend) and I always hoped he’d find a job there after graduation so I could relocate there with him. Alas, he didn’t have a lot of love for the city. He came back to….southeast Michigan 😉 Congrats on your ten years!

  5. Kathy says:

    Happy Anniversary! Rhinebeck??

  6. Carole says:

I think you’ve got it remarkably together for someone so young. Mwah!

  7. Amy says:

Happy Anniversary! Pittsburgh really is an awesome place (and that says a lot coming from a Clevelander!) so you’re very lucky to have found it! I hope you enjoy your bliss 🙂

  8. regina says:

Sounds like a lot has happened during those 10 years!
I wish you all the best for the coming 10!

  11. Michelle says:

This made me laugh. It’s been probably 10 years since I’ve been in Pittsburgh even though my Grandmother is still there. I used to spend half my summers there. Glad you’re enjoying the city!

  12. Danielle says:

Congratulations! I wonder if you’ve crossed paths in Pittsburgh with my friend Minette? (http://blog.pinkergreen.com/2007/03/design-dish-minette-vaccariello.html) Also in the “late-20’s/live music/small-crafty-business/Pittsburgh crowd?

(OK, I know the chances are slim, but I had to ask!)

  13. maryse says:

i have to agree with carole. happy anniversary!

  14. Debbie in Kirkland, WA says:

Happy Anniversary! I have to agree with the part about being 17 and thinking you know everything (but you don’t). I have an 18-year old daughter. She is great, and she is in that point in her life!

Somehow I missed the yarn update…next time I guess!

  15. Debbie in Kirkland, WA says:

Update to comment – that is a preview and I didn’t miss the yarn update!

  16. Celtic Queen says:

Congrats! BTW, I love that colorway. Everytime I look at it I say I need to buy it.

  17. Liz says:

I can’t believe you’re only 28! Congratulations on your fabulous yarn biz, I bet 10 years ago you had no idea you would be running a sock yarn club. That is a fabulous color, dang I just ordered 4 skeins of STR and that was NOT one of them, but now I want it.

  18. Marisol says:

Happy Anniversary! You are wise beyond your years. I don’t know that I knew what I wanted to do with my life when I was 28. Much Less own my own business! Good Job!

  19. LaurieG says:

Yay! I’m glad you stuck around!

  20. Laurie says:

Right now sounds good to me. Lots of stuff done, clearly lots of integration, and perspective. What a fabulous place to be in! (I was a tired mess at 28.)

  21. Congratulations!! What a wonderful milestone and I hope the beginning of much much more 🙂

  22. Manise says:

Happy Anniversary Julia! I love your perspective on life. I wish I could have been as wise at your age. 🙂 Here’s to the next 10!

  23. Nancy says:

Congratulations and well-done. Here’s to another ten years of doing what makes you happy in a place you like with someone you love.

  24. Nicole says:

    Hey Julia,

I was goofing around on the internet and came across this awesome website! I am so happy for you! I remember the day you left for Pittsburgh…it seems like yesterday! I am glad to see that you have found much success there! Congrats, on everything!
