I can’t believe it’s been 26 years. I remember exactly how I heard about it, too: my dad had been watching Monday Night Football and Howard Cossell announced it during the game. It still makes me so unspeakably sad to think about it.
Oh yeah. I was in Home Ec, 7th or 8th grade and was getting something from the Home Ec office when I heard the news… (“I heard the news today, oh boy… about a lucky man who made the grade. And tho the news was very sad…”)
I would go into the office very early in the morning, it must have been around 5:00 am, I had just put the radio on and the CBC announced it and played “So this is Christmas”, I cried all the way to work on the subway.

My Hubby asked our 13 yr old what happened 26 yrs ago today, and the 16 yr old shouted out the answer, and the 13 yr old says, It’s December 8th?
Sad. Can you imagine what else he could have done with all of the time he lost?

How quickly the time has flown. Every time I hear a John Lennon song I am sad all over again.
